Manfred Keune was born in Solingen in 1936 where he lived during the years of World War II and the immediate post–war era. In 1957 he went to the USA, eventually studied there and wrote a dissertation on Theodor Fontane. He is now an Associate Professor Emeritus of German Studies at The Pennsylvania State University.
Besides writing poetry and doing translations, he published essays and articles on Lion Feuchtwanger, Theodor Fontane, Günter Kunert, Fritz Reuter and B. Traven. He co–edited and contributed to the books The Berlin Wall – Symbol and Reality and Kunert Werkstatt. His current residence is Cape Coral, Florida.
